Minister's message
2011 has been a significant year for the disability sector.
As we come together to celebrate International Day of People with a Disability on 3 December and the Don’t DIS my ABILITY campaign, it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what has been achieved over the past 12 months.
The changes have been deep and far reaching. From the way disability services are being delivered, to looking beyond the short term and tackling complex issues such as a National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Daring and boldness has become a trademark of Don’t DIS my ABILITY. It puts people front and centre, highlighting and celebrating their accomplishments and achievements.
I encourage everyone to join in the Don’t DIS my ABILITY festivities. This year’s program includes a series of cultural, arts, sporting and community events as rich, diverse and bold as the community it represents with a big emphasis on technology, innovation and employment. These topics are tackled with Made You Look’s trademark thought-provoking style.
It prompted me to reflect on how technology in particular has been integrated into my own life and how much I rely on it each and every day.
From iPhone applications to email on the go, Twitter and Facebook, which is helping drive important social campaigns like Every Australian Counts.
We’re more connected to people and information than ever before. Technology and social media in particular is also helping people with a disability connect more easily with friends and family and hopefully, our Don’t DIS my ABILITY campaign.
I encourage you to get involved in this year’s activities by attending a Don’t DIS my ABILITY event or picking up our publication Made You Look online or across NSW.
And don’t forget to spread the word among your social network by becoming a fan on Facebook or following us on Twitter.
The Hon. Andrew Constance MP
Minister for Disability Services
