So you plan on getting a new sauna for your home. If you’re new to the world of saunas this decision can be at times daunting and at first you may be lost on which type of sauna to purchase. Saunas are great to have at home as they help immensely in relaxation and also have numerous health benefits of using them. A sauna is a small room with the ability to withstand high temperatures and is primarily used for therapeutic purposes. There are two main types of saunas. Traditional saunas are saunas which generate heat through the combustion of wood or gas, while Infrared saunas are more modern and use a special type of heater in the heating process.
In comparison to infrared saunas, traditional saunas have its benefits and downfalls. For starters, traditional saunas are expensive and take more time to heat than infrared saunas. They also operate in an 80 – 90 degree Celsius temperature with very low humidity thus making the overall experience not so pleasant. But that’s not all. Traditional Saunas are highly expensive to operate let alone heat up. Since they run on combustion of wood, they require constant attention in order to operate for long periods of time. Traditional saunas also require extra electrical work for installation which costs a lot of money as well. In addition to this they also require high maintenance standards and need maintenance almost thrice as often than infrared saunas, thus requiring a lot of time and effort.
Also, while infrared saunas can be installed in minutes, traditional saunas take days to install and require specialised attention in doing so. Traditional saunas are also said to feel too heaty and claustrophobic in comparison to infrared saunas. Thus from this we can see that traditional saunas might not be the ideal choice when choosing saunas, due to its high installation efforts and maintenance costs.
Infrared Saunas completely run on electricity thus making it the more economical and environment-friendly choice to make. In order to power up an infrared sauna, depending on the size you will most probably use a 13 or 20 amp plug. Another notable feature of using infrared saunas is that they only take a mere 10-15 minutes to heat up as they use infrared wave technology. People who have used both traditional and infrared saunas have said that infrared saunas provide a milder and better climate for relaxation. The heat that is generated through infrared saunas are dry and gentle and prove to be ideal for those looking for home saunas which offer a practical and enjoyable alternative from traditional saunas.
In terms of maintenance, infrared saunas can save you a ton of time and money as the only maintenance that’s needed is periodically wiping the walls and benches from any with a mild solution of water. Infrared saunas are also convenient as they can be installed in as little as an hour and just need an electric socket to be plugged into.
While infrared saunas and traditional saunas have their benefits, they have two very different experiences, thus it is advisable to try on both of them before making a decision.
